Provider discussion checklist

The Vetting
Standard.

Use this four-part checklist to discuss the proposed provider and project. HAUSE intake does not certify a contractor, guarantee availability or replace your own checks.

Phase 01 Verification

Insurance evidence

Ask the provider for current insurance evidence and discuss the insured entity, scope, dates, exclusions and suitable limits with the insurer or project adviser. HAUSE does not claim a policy has been checked.

Phase 02 Verification

Safety Compliance

Ask which workers’ compensation registration or clearance requirements apply to this hiring arrangement and province. Verify any required documentation with the relevant board; do not assume one rule covers every homeowner contract.

Phase 03 Verification

Expertise Validation

Review relevant work samples or references and agree on visible joint fit, transitions, surface preparation and finishing standards before engagement. Reference photos are not a HAUSE site audit.

Phase 04 Verification

Service Reliability

Ask for relevant recent references and agree on communication, scheduling, change approval and complaint handling. Review any ratings in context; HAUSE does not claim to operate a scored bidding pool or monitor provider performance.

The Liability
Warning.

Requirements depend on the province and hiring arrangement. Ontario WSIB guidance includes an exemption for some directly retained home-renovation work. Ask the appropriate board or a qualified adviser about the actual arrangement instead of assuming blanket liability or exemption.

Use this checklist to record the checks you and your project adviser complete.

Hire with
Clear Questions.

Share your scope and location with HAUSE intake. Availability and any provider engagement still need confirmation.
