Identify the problem. Decide if it's a DIY weekend project or if you need a professional carpenter.
Joint Separation (Gapping)
Medium SeveritySymptoms & Cause
"Visible gaps appearing at miter joints or scarf joints during winter months."
Possible contributors include changing indoor moisture conditions, joint fit, fastening and movement of the existing assembly.
DIY Quick Fix
Check why the gap opened before choosing a compatible repair and finish. Evaluate old coatings before sanding or removal.
Questions for an assessment
Ask a qualified provider to assess joint fit, backing and fastening before selecting a repair.
Fascia / Sill Rot
Critical SeveritySymptoms & Cause
"Soft, spongy wood that crumbles when poked. Paint bubbling."
Investigate possible water entry, drainage, flashing and concealed damage; the visible trim may not show the full extent.
DIY Quick Fix
Avoid covering softened or damp material before the moisture source and extent have been assessed.
Questions for an assessment
Agree on the moisture-source repair, affected substrate and suitable replacement material after assessment.
Can't fix it yourself?
Share the observed damage, its location and any moisture history with HAUSE intake. Photos support a discussion; they do not establish a diagnosis or the extent of concealed damage. A qualified site assessment may be needed.

Diagnostic Tips
- 1.Push on wood with a screwdriver. If it sinks, it's rot.
- 2.Check humidity. Wood shrinks in winter (gaps) and expands in summer.
- 3.Look for "frass" (sawdust) which indicates carpenter ants.
